Crisis on Infinite Earths: Who are the 7 Paragons?

Who are the 7 Paragons on Crisis On Infinite Earths? We break down everything we've learned so far.

This Crisis On Infinite Earths article contains spoilers for “Part One” and “Part Two.”

The Arrowverse has lots of synonyms for “hero” these days. The most recent is “Paragon.”

What is a Paragon? In the context of the on-screen Crisis, the Paragons are the seven superheroes, “beings of the purest will” who might be able to save the Multiverse from the Anti-Monitor. So, no pressure. The idea of a Paragon is first introduced in “Part Two” of The CW’s Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover event, relayed to our friends by the Monitor, who only knows the identity of two, has clues for the identity of two, and is ¯_(ツ)_/¯ about the final three.

The information the Monitor does have about the Paragons comes from the Tome of the Guardians (as in the beings who give the Green Lantern Corps their marching orders), which the Monitor tells us he has been interpreting with the help of Felicity Smoak.

In the comic book arc from which the Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover is pulled from, there is no mention of this word, though there are seven heroes first summoned to save the day. They are King Solovar of Gorilla City, Dawnstar, Firebrand, Blue Beetle, Psycho Pirate, Arion, and Firestorm. This doesn’t seem particularly relevant to our Crisis.

Paragons Revealed So Far

In “Part Two,” four of the seven Paragons were revealed: The Paragon of Courage is Batwoman (Ruby Rose). The Paragon of Hope is Supergirl (Melissa Benoist). The Paragon of Destiny is Sara Lance (Caity Lotz). The Paragon of Truth is Earth-96’s Superman (Brandon Routh), who was replaced by Lex Luthor when Lex used the Book of Destiny to avoid the apocalypse.

We have three Paragons yet to be revealed. In fact, we don’t even know what they might be the Paragons of. That being said, given that, thus far, the Paragons tend to be headliners of their own CW superhero show, there are a few likely candidates for Paragon-status.

In “Part Three,” we almost immediately learn the identities of the other three Paragons, thanks for Ray’s Paragon Detector (assist credit goes to Cisco!): The Paragon of Honor is J’onn Jonz (David Harewood). The Paragon of Love is The Flash (Grant Gustin). The Paragon of Humanity is Ryan Choi (Osric Chau), a character we met for the first time in Crisis.

Possible Paragon Plot Twists

We’ve already seen our heroes be wrong about one of the Paragons. They initially thought the Paragon of Courage was Earth-99’s Bruce Wayne, who turned out to be a hateful xenophobe. Rather, the Paragon of Courage is our Kate Kane, who is much more heroic and courageous.

But if our heroes have been wrong about one of the Paragons before, could they be wrong about another? The clue the Monitor gave about the Paragon of Truth is that he has suffered “unimaginable loss.” While the Superman from Earth-96 certainly qualifies, as he has lost his Lois, Jimmy, and Perry, Lex Luthor hasn’t exactly lived a life without loss. Unlike Superman, he has lost his humanity. Could he serve as the Paragon of Truth, or are our heroes now screwed?
