Kit Harington Cast as Marvel’s Black Knight in Eternals

Game of Thrones star Kit Harington is joining the MCU as Dane Whitman, Marvel's Black Knight, in the Eternals movie.

D23 2019 has been plenty eventful for Marvel fans. Marvel Studios has already announced live action Disney+ TV shows for Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk. They’ve unveiled crazy footage from What If…? that should make Agent Carter fans very happy. They gave us a Black Panther 2 release date. And they’ve even added another Game of Thrones star to their ranks with Kit Harrington. Not only that, they found the most appropriate role possible for him.

After speculation that Kit Harington would be playing the MCU version of Wolverine or be the star of the aforementioned Moon Knight series had made the rounds on the internet, confirmation came at D23 that the former Jon Snow would instead be joining the cast of Marvel’s Eternals movie, in an unexpected but still somehow fitting role. Harrington will play Dane Whitman, known to Marvel fans as The Black Knight, a former villain and wielder of the mystical Ebony Blade. He’s got a history with Sersi, the Eternal who will be played by Gemma Chan in the movie. Harington’s presence in Eternals also marks a Game of Thrones reunion of sorts with his former co-star Richard Madden, who plays Ikaris in the film.

And in what is certainly not a coincidence, the Black Knight’s armor and sword were visible for a brief moment in the background of a museum in Spider-Man: Far From Home. It sure looked like the character’s most traditional comic book attire, so maybe we’ll get to see Harington looking completely ridiculous in that costume before the credits roll on Eternals.

Marvel Comics Black Knight

The MCU should be a walk in the park for Harington, who is no stranger to being at the center of a massive franchise. After all, Game of Thrones is one of the most popular scripted dramas of recent years. By the end of the show’s run, Harington’s Jon Snow was the series’ protagonist, alongside Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen. While Thrones ended in tragedy for Jon, who was exiled from the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros after he was forced to kill his beloved Queen Daenerys, it sounds like things are looking up for Harington.
