Avengers: Endgame Re-Release with Extra Footage Coming

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige reveals that the smash-hit superhero saga will be back on our screens in an extended format.

It’s not even left a lot of theaters yet, such is the box-office might of Avengers: Endgame (and, frankly, the disappointing blockbuster competition so far this summer) – but it looks like the Marvel mega-hit is already getting a theatrical re-release.

Speaking to ComicBook.com during promo duties on the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige revealed that Avengers: Endgame will be back in a slightly new format, with some extra footage added in. “We are doing that,” Feige said. “I don’t know if it’s been announced. And I don’t know how much… Yeah, we’re doing it next weekend.”

The news will likely spur on a flurry of speculation about what the new footage might be. The original cut of Endgame clocked in at an already massive 181 minutes, but it’s yet to be determined how far over the three hour-mark this new version will push it.

This isn’t entirely unexpected, however – Endgame is currently sitting at second place on the all-time worldwide box-office chart having amassed $2.743 billion since its release at the end of April. It’s agonisingly close to finally succeeding the reigning champ, Avatar, which has a total of $2.788 billion (that total, you might remember, was boosted by a theatrical re-release that included an additional nine minutes of footage). Marvel and Disney will likely be hoping that a big-screen revival will give Endgame the extra push it needs to dethrone James Cameron’s decade-long record holder.

Of course, it’s worth noting that nothing has been officially announced yet, which is quite late considering Feige’s proposed date of “next weekend.” It’s also not certain whether he’s referring to a domestic (US) release or a worldwide one. Whatever the outcome, it’s exciting that a longer cut exists and is seemingly ready to be unleashed. We’ll bring you more news as we have it.
