Avengers: Endgame Trailer Reveals New Team Costumes

Earth's Mightiest Heroes are getting a new look in Avengers: Endgame.

The brand new Avengers: Endgame trailer finally brought a little action to the table and teased some more of what to expect from the most highly anticipated superhero movie of the last decade, and the culmination of 22 MCU movies. While we still have very little idea of what’s coming in terms of story, there are a few reveals that should get fans a little crazy.

If you haven’t watched that trailer yet, you probably should do so right now…

While there are a few other hints here (have we ever seen Steve Rogers look that angry/determined?), one thing that stands out are the new costumes. While it’s standard practice for Marvel heroes to get their costumes tweaked and upgraded in between movies, this is the first time we’ve had anything resembling a standard Avengers “uniform” (with the possible exception of the spacesuits the team wore in the leadup to the Infinity event in Jonathan Hickman’s sprawling Avengers comics run.

Her’s a rather determined looking Steve Rogers…

And here’s Scott Lang. There’s plenty of speculation that concepts from the Ant-Man movies are going to be central to how Avengers: Endgame plays out, but we’ll get to that in a minute.

Even War Machine gets some (potential) Pym-tech upgrades to his Stark armor…

And here’s Black Widow and a freshly returned to Earth Tony Stark.

Notably absent from this squad in new suits? Powerhouses like Thor, Captain Marvel, Hulk (who will presumably get over his little “problem” from Infinity War in time to inflict some quality damage in Endgame), and, um, Rocket, are nowhere to be seen here. Whatever’s going on here, the team is splitting up into two strike forces to deal with the fallout of Thanos’ snap.

One thing that’s certainly noticeable about these suits is their similarity to design elements we’ve seen in those films, particularly Ant-Man & The Wasp. The red is a fairly close match for what we see on Scott’s Ant-Man suit, too. Are these all suits that allow the team to traverse the Quantum Realm? Perhaps these suits are what will make safe travel through the Quantum Realm, and maybe time travel, possible for the team.

Just to take things a little further into the outer limits of the Marvel Universe, the white calls to mind the Fantastic Four and Future Foundation uniforms that were favored during Jonathan Hickman’s tenure as FF writer, as do some of the shapes of the panels on the suits.

I wouldn’t go starting your Fantastic Four engines just yet (Endgame was completed long before the Disney/Fox deal was a done deal), but with fans long speculating that the Quantum Realm could be used as some kind of way to introduce the Fantastic Four to the MCU, we just couldn’t help but note the similarity.
