Brahms: The Boy 2 Trailer, Release Date and Details

The Boy arrived in early 2016 as a uniquely interesting horror movie offering, not only because it was headlined by Lauren Cohan, then one of the stars of one of TV’s hottest shows, AMC’s The Walking Dead (to which she will soon return), but also because of its unique promotional strategy, which teased it as a haunted house movie; something that, as shocked audiences would discover, it is not. Indeed, while the film provided a profitable $64 million bang for STXfilms’ $10 million budget buck, a sequel – barring something straight-to-DVD – was not expected… until now.

Brahms: The Boy 2 is the title of STXfilms and Lakeshore Entertainment movie sequel, which procured a high-profile star in Katie Holmes. The sequel got The Boy band (not the lip-syncing choreographed kind,) back together, landing original director William Brent Bell, who worked off a script by returning original writer Stacey Menear. Also onboard are producers in Lakeshore’s Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi and Eric Reid. Matt Berenson, Jim Wedaa and Roy Lee also produced.

Brahms: The Boy 2 Details

2016’s The Boy depicted the ordeal of an American woman, Greta (Cohan), hired by a vacationing elderly couple as a live-in caretaker in a creepy English estate known as Heelshire Mansion, notably in the creepy capacity as a “nanny” for a porcelain doll representing their late son, Brahms. However, after experiencing seemingly supernatural things like childish sobs and giggles, Greta discovers that she is, indeed, babysitting Brahms, who’s very much alive, living as an adult within secret passages of the home, wearing a porcelain mask – resembling the doll – to cover his scarred visage. Oh, and he’s dangerously psychotic.

Pertinently, The Boy 2 will see Holmes play the matriarch of a young family who has the misfortune of moving into the guest house on the estate of Heelshire Mansion, where her young son Martin (Christopher Convery) uncovers Brahms the doll, obviously unaware of the object’s long and horrific history. Unfortunately, an already odd situation will escalate to dangerous heights when Martin becomes ensnared into a bizarre friendship with the doll.

As co-producer Lucchesi expressed in a statement:

“Following the success of The Boy we are thrilled to be working on the next chapter of this chilling Brahms story with Stacey and William. We are also delighted to be continuing our relationship with STX, on this, our third partnership.”

Brahms: The Boy 2 is an interesting return to movie headlining for Katie Holmes, who recently banked appearances in movies such as Ocean’s Eight (uncredited), Logan Lucky, Dear Dictator and fielded TV appearances with miniseries The Kennedys: Decline and Fall (reprising her role as Jackie from the 2011 miniseries,) and a run on Ray Donovan. She is, of course, historically known for her 1998-2003 TV run on Dawson’s Creek and as Christopher Nolan’s original Rachel Dawes in Batman Begins.

The main cast also consist of the aforementioned Christoper Convery (Stranger Things, Gotham), Owain Yeoman (Emergence, The Mentalist) and Ralph Ineson (The Witch, Guardians of the Galaxy).
