Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Developers Confirm Fixed Lightsaber Design

It turns out that some fans weren’t happy with the design of Jedi: Fallen Order‘s lightsaber, and developer Respawn has stated that they intend to fix it ahead of the game’s release. 

“We made a mistake on that one and since then we’ve fixed it,” said Fallen Order game director Stig Asmussen in an interview with Game Informer. “That was very fair feedback, very fair criticism, and we’ve tweaked that. We’ve also tweaked the shape of the lightsaber blade a little bit as well, too. You can see the difference right away.”

So what was the problem? Well (*puts on nerd glasses*), it seems that the original design of the Fallen Order lightsaber utilized a solid blue hue for the actual light part of the lightsaber. The issue was that some fans noticed that other lightsabers in the Star Wars universe feature a white core surrounded by a particular color. 

It’s a very, very specific (or slightly less kind words for that concept) observation, but once someone points it out to you, it’s hard not to notice what they’re talking about. The lightsaber featured in Fallen Order‘s E3 demo doesn’t look quite as vibrant as it perhaps should. It actually looks a little static and closer to a solid “blade” than a beam of light. 

Respawn says that the design has already been fixed which should mean that the next video of the game will feature much-improved lightsaber visuals. Respawn previously responded to criticisms of the Fallen Order E3 video by releasing an extended gameplay look which showcases some of the title’s non-linear elements and other mechanics not featured in the original version. 

We’re eager to see this improved version of the game ahead of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order‘s November 15th release date.
