Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Release Date

Sonic the Hedgehowas famously delayed.Originally scheduled to premiere on Nov. 8, 2019, the film will now debut on Feb. 14, 2020. Director Jeff Fowler explained that this delay is due to the team’s desire to “make Sonic just right,” which is more than likely a reference to the redesigns the visual artists are making to Sonic following the overwhelmingly negative reaction that followed the reveal of the character’s initial look.

Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Trailer

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEM-ZtvS93U

Sonic the Hedgehog is set to have a commercial at the Super Bowl and it was actually released early! The commercial features several athletes discussing one of the greatest heroes they’ve ever known. Someone with speed, the best spin moves, and knows “it’s all about the rings.” Of course, they’re talking about Sonic! He’s apparently got some big name friends in the sports world!

The commercial then seques into a regular spot for the movie with some new footage, including Robotnik delivering a classic, “you’re mine Hedgehog!”

With that new footage we also can’t forget some of the other footage we’ve seen from the film. Fandango has an exclusive clip from the film which features “Fluffy Sonic.” It’s a great look at the interaction between Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, and how much better Sonic looks thanks to his desgin.

That clip just reminds us how great Sonic’s new redesign looked when we first saw it in the second trailer for the movie, which is below. Sonic looks perfect and there are some great little easter eggs for hardcore fans.

And here’s the… fabled first trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. It was met with a strong backlash from fans and the Sonic design in this film has come to be known as “Teeth Sonic.” #ReleaseTheTeethCut?

Thankfully this Sonic design was redone and we don’t have to think about the nightmare of Sonic’s teeth. However we can’t wait for a comic book years down the line to find a way to incorporate “Teeth Sonic” into the wider Sonic mythos.

Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Soundtrack

Right now we don’t know what the full soundtrack for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie will be but they did just release a single made especially for the film titled ‘Speed Me Up.’

The music video is a great tribute to Sonic, filled with retro 16-bit graphics and all the artists (Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Yachty & Sueco the Child) get a video game makeover. The song also features references to Tails and Knuckles from the Sonic franchise. Could this hint at their inclusion in the movie?

Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Cast

Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation) will become the voice of Sonic. His past voice work includes Dewey Duck on Disney’s DuckTales reboot.

Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik

Jim Carrey (The Bad Batch) will play the villainous Dr. Robotnik, the main antagonist of the video game series. He absolutely loves to trap cute little animals inside evil robots created to destroy Sonic once and for all. In Japan, this character is actually named Eggman due to his shape.

James Marsden (Westworld) has also been cast in a key role as Tom Wachowski, the sheriff of Green Hills. (Green Hill Zone, of course, is the first and most famous stage of the original Sonic the Hedgehog game.) Wachowski ends up on a road trip to San Francisco with Sonic to stop the evil Dr. Robotnik.

The cast is rounded out by Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Neal McDonough, and Adam Pally.
