Castlevania Anniversary Collection: Release Date, Games, and News

Castlevania Anniversary Collection will bring eight classic Castlevania games to current-gen consoles this summer.

Konami is celebrating its 50th anniversary by re-releasing 24 of its classic games on current-gen consoles. In addition to collections for the Contra series and Konami’s arcade hits, the company is also releasing the Castlevania Anniversary Collection, which will feature the series’ earliest installments. Each collection will include eight games.

The games included in the collection are: Castlevania (NES), Castlevania 2: Simon’s Quest (NES), Castlevania 2: Belmont’s Revenge (Game Boy), Castlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse (NES), Super Castlevania 4 (SNES), Castlevania: Bloodlines (Sega Genesis), Kid Dracula (Game Boy), and Castlevania: The Adventure (Game Boy).

The collection also comes with an in-game Bonus Book that includes developer notes, concept sketches, and an interview with Adi Shankar, a producer on the animated series, which was recently renewed for a third season on Netflix.

While the collection celebrates many of the franchise’s classic titles, it’s peculiar that it doesn’t include Rondo of Blood or Symphony of the Night, both of which were recently re-released on the PlayStation 4 as the Castlevania Requiem collection. Bringing these two fan-favorite titles to the rest of the current-gen consoles would have made perfect sense. But we’ll just have to wait a bit longer to play Symphony of the Night on the Nintendo Switch.

We recently ranked the best Castlevania games ever made. Unsurprisingly, many of the games on our list are included in the new anniversary collection. Other titles we rank among Castlevania‘s best are Curse of Darkness, Lords of Shadow, Order of Ecclesia, and Aria of Sorrow. Perhaps Konami will re-release these at a later date.

Castlevania Anniversary Collection is set to release digitally on May 16 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and on PC. It’ll set you back $20. We’ll keep you updated as we hear more!
