David Ayer Unhappy With New Suicide Squad Criticism

David Ayer is looking forward to James Gunn's Suicide Squad sequel, though.

There’s not too much left to say about Warner Bros and DC’s 2016 effort Suicide Squad that hasn’t already been said, but for every person making an easy “Suicide Squad was crap lol” joke for a quick high five, science has proved that there is an equal and opposite reaction – the “actually, Suicide Squad is good” response. 38-500 replies later, there will inevitably be no winners found in the wreckage.

Late last week, no less than the director of Suicide Squad himself entered the particularly unglamorous arena of Suicide Squad‘s online discourse. David Ayer became unhappy with a tweet from David Ehrlich, a film critic at IndieWire, who felt moved to address the marketing excitement surrounding James Gunn’s forthcoming Suicide Squad sequel, The Suicide Squad. Gunn famously boarded the project at Warner Bros after being fired as the director of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 by Disney and Marvel Studios, before later being rehired.

It was then David Vs David as Ayer shot back:

Ehrlich went on to apologise to Ayer, who he probably didn’t imagine would see his original tweet. If you’ve ever had something similar happen to you, you’ll know exactly how it feels to cringe yourself into a personal black hole.

James Gunn then popped up to thank Ayer for his support in the matter, and Ayer later posted “On the real I cannot wait to see this movie #TheSuicideSquad”

The Suicide Squad is set to be released in August 2021. It stars Margot Robbie, Taika Waititi, Jai Courtney, Idris Elba, and John Cena, and might be good.
