Supernatural Stars Not Ready to Close Door on Revival

Jensen Ackles says it would be foolish to discount returning to Supernatural in the future.

Supernatural is planning to go out with an Earth-shattering bang after fifteen long seasons of thrilling fans who secretly (and not so secretly) hoped the series would never end, but according to the show’s stars, they still might get their wish.

“It’s a long journey that I don’t think is ever going to be over,” said Jensen Ackles, who plays Dean Winchester in the show, at Supernatural‘s TCA panel. “I think we’re just going to go away for a while. For how long, I don’t know.”

After this statement raised some eyebrows in the room, Ackles then explained exactly what he meant by it:

“I’m not ready to close doors or burn bridges — that would be foolish. Is something in the works? No. Am I open to having a conversation in the future? Why not?”

The actor suspects that the show’s spinoffs may have proved that a Supernatural series without the Winchester brothers might not be successful in the future, but his co-star Jared Padalecki added, “I hesitate to maybe accept the idea that spinoffs didn’t work. They were great, I’m proud to have been parts of those episodes. They didn’t fit, I suppose. I do hope we see more of the Supernatural universe.”

Also in attendance at the Television Critics Association Press Tour was CW President Mark Pedowitz, who reflected on Ackles and Padalecki’s decision to bring Supernatural to an end with season 15. He says that he’s ready for Supernatural to lurch back from the dead whenever the actors are ready.

“All I can tell you is that Jared, Jensen, Peter Roth from Warner Brothers Studio and myself, had a very, very long, sad, heartbreaking discussion and we all came to understand what the guys wanted to do. They wanted to go out still relevant. They wanted to go be with their families. They wanted to see what else was out in the world and you know what? As we always said, and I said this many times, when they are ready to stop, we will stop. For them — and for Stephen Amell on Arrow — these shows are going out the way the way they were supposed to go… but if you can convince them to come back, I’m open!”

Ah, forget a possible season 16 in the future, the Winchester brothers have definitely earned their own Supernatural movie franchise! You can read everything you need to know about Supernatural season 15 right here.
