Days Gone is the UK’s biggest physical game launch of 2019

It may not have garnered perfect reviews, but Days Gone has taken the UK physical sales charts by storm...

Here’s an interesting one: despite earning quite a few negative reviews, including a 2.5/5 write-up from us, Days Gone has been doing very solid sales numbers here in the UK.

In fact, the zombies-versus-motorbike-man title from SIE Bend Studio has had the UK’s most financially successful physical launch of the year so far. Hordes of people must’ve rushed out and bought it, or lined up a pre-order ahead of time.

You’ve probably noticed that Sony has been chucking a lot of marketing spend at this action-adventure game, with Days Gone adverts popping up in cinemas and train stations. The fact that it’s a PS4 exclusive that’s been spoken about for years is probably a contributing factor, as well.

The exact numbers are hard to come by, but the highly-trusted GFK Chart-Track service (which is managed by the trade body Ukie) tells us that Days Gone is enjoying “the biggest launch of the year so far” in the All-Formats Charts.

The full chart list tells us that Mortal Kombat 11 is in second place this week, with those old favourites FIFA 19 and Red Dead Redemption 2 sitting pretty at third and fourth respectively. Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 is fifth and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is sixth. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is seventh, Forza Horizon 4 is eighth and New Super Mario Bros U. Deluxe is ninth.

Last week’s number one was World War Z, which received a 4.5-star review from us, but that title has now slipped down to tenth. It’ll be interesting to see which of these zombie games ends up with the best sales numbers overall…
