Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will be getting its on Black Mirror: Bandersnatch-style interactive special on Netflix in 2020. Kimmy Schmidt co-creator Tina Fey made the announcement during the show’s Four Your Consideration event last year.
“We’re thrilled to announce that we’re about to start production,” said Fey, as transcribed by EW. “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was one of the first original comedy series on Netflix, and now it will be its first interactive comedy event. Fans will be able to make choices on behalf of our characters, taking different story paths with, of course, different jokes. I think it’s a great fit for our show and will be a great way to officially complete the series.”
Now Netflix has confirmed the name of the project. “Untitled Kimmy Schmidt Interactive Special,” you shall heretofore be known as Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend.
Barring any other announcements, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend will be the third special of its kind for Netflix. The streaming giant’s choose-your-own-adventure style technological experimenting began with Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and continued with the Bear Grylls-starring You vs. Wild.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend will premiere on May 12 on Netflix. As an interactive special, it will likely consist of just one big “episode.”

Netflix’s official synopsis for the project reads:
Kimmy Schmidt (Ellie Kemper) sets off on her biggest adventure yet. Three states! Explosions! A dancing hamburger! And you, the viewer, get to decide how the story goes. Will you foil the Reverend’s (Jon Hamm) evil plan and get Kimmy to her wedding on time? Or will you accidentally start a war against the robots? So grab your remote and a tray of delicious scrod, ‘cause Kimmy’s got her own Netflix interactive special!
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt premiered on Netflix back in May of 2015. It was the follow up effort to Fey and Robert Carlock’s massively successful NBC sitcom 30 Rock. The story (as helpfully summed up by its delightful auto-tuned opening credits) follows Kimmy Schmidt, a young optimistic woman who spent much of her youth and early adult life imprisoned in an underground bunker by the doomsday cultist Reverend Wayne Gary Wayne (Jon Hamm). Once rescued, the 29-year-old Kimmy moves to New York where she learns to adapt to modern life with the help of landlord Lillian (Carol Kane), roommate Titus (Tituss Burgess), and employer Jacqueline (Jane Krakowski).
The fourth and final season premiered on January 25, 2019 on Netflix.

According to TVLine, Daniel Radcliffe will be joining the cast in an as-of-yet undisclosed role. He joins regular cast members Ellie Kemper, Tituss Burgess, Jane Krakowski and Carol Kane, as well as Jon Hamm.
