The Walking Dead Movie to Be Released in Theaters Only
AMC will be launching a Walking Dead film series with Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes in the lead. Here is what we know.
Well, the mourning period for Rick Grimes was pretty short. That’s partially due to the fact that our strapping Walking Dead lead didn’t actually die in his final episode. On the contrary, he was whisked away on a helicopter to safety and presumably for a new round of adventures.
Now AMC has officially confirmed that we’ll indeed get to see the continuing adventures of Rick Grimes. AMC announced in a press release (literally two minutes after Rick’s final episode had aired) that Rick and the actor who portrays him, Andrew Lincoln, will be making the jump to film.

Former Walking Dead showrunner and current Walking Dead universe content officer Scott Gimple will write the script for the first movie and potentially more.

The Walking Dead Movie Trailer
There isn’t a full trailer for the upcoming Walking Dead film yet but AMC did release this little teaser during SDCC 2019. Those sure are some big buildings that the helicopter is drifting towards.
The Walking Dead Movie Plot
No plot details have been announced yet. But Walking Dead czar Scott Gimple did have this to say in a statement:
“We have a lot on the horizon – starting with a new epic featuring one of the greatest leading actors in television history and one of the best people I’ve ever met. These films are going to be big evolutions of what we’ve been doing on the show, with the scope and scale of features. We’re starting with the first part of the continuing story of Rick Grimes, and there is much more on the way, featuring yet-unseen worlds of The Walking Dead and faces from the show’s past, as well as new characters we hope to become favorites, told by TWD veterans and emerging voices. We want to break new ground with different, distinct stories, all part of the same world that’s captured our imagination for nearly a decade of theDead.”
