Those who had read the His Dark Materials books on which the HBO/BBC series is based know that the relationship between Lyra (Dafne Keen) and Will (Amir Wilson) is at the heart of The Subtle Knife, the second book in the trilogy and the story on which His Dark Materials Season 2 will be based. While the Season 1 finale teased the Lyra/Will introduction, we finally get to see the two characters interact in the just-released Season 2 trailer. Check it out…

The trailer also gives us our very first glimpse at the mysterious city of Cittàgaze, as well as glimpses at new cast members Andrew Scott (John Parry), Jade Anouka (Ruta Skadi), and Simone Kirby (Dr. Mary Malone). The trailer was first revealed at the His Dark Materials Season 2 panel at SDCC at Home during which the series stars Keen and Wilson chatted about their first meeting in real life.

“We met for the first time in Madrid,” said Wilson, who also starred in Netflix’s The Letter For the King. “I was filming in Prague at the time and then, when I got the part, they said, ‘We want you to meet Dafne pretty much straight away.’ And so, in the next week, they flew me out to Madrid and then we went out together. I think one thing we shared in common is that we both moved away from home, and we both moved to Cardiff together. We all said the same things, like how we both hate school and all that stuff.”

“It was the only kid that went up for Will that I didn’t meet,” said Keen of first meeting Wilson. “I met all of the other people that went up for Will. Like Amir said, he was in Prague, and then he got called into Madrid and I was like, ‘Right. I’m gonna be filming with him for like half a year, so I really need to get on with him.’”

The two do seem to get along, joking about their on-set school school setup, which apparently involves not getting to talk to another, and mentioning that they lived close together and often went on walks.
