Dax Shepard and Lake Bell to Headline New Fox Series From New Girl Creator

Shepard and Bell will star in Liz Meriwether's new series Bless This Mess for Fox.

Dax Shepard is returning to TV. After considering many script offers, the former Parenthood star has settled on a new series from New Girl creator Liz Meriwether. Shepard will star and executive produce Bless This Mess, an off-cycle pilot for Fox.

Sort of a fish out of water story, Bless This Mess follows a newlywed couple who give up the hustle, bustle, and expenses of New York City to live a simpler life in Nebraska. Since this is a comedy, hilarity ensues. Lake Bell (No Escape, Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later) co-stars as Shepard’s wife.

Bell also penned the script with Meriwether. Shepard’s character, Mike, is described as “the happiest, most positive hipster in New York.” Working as a freelance journalist, Mike is able to leave his work and the city behind after inheriting his family’s farm out West in the heartland.

Katherine Pope (New Girl) will produce alongside Shepard. Most recently, Shepard has guest-starred on NBC’s The Good Place and Fox’s Ghosted, and recently launched a podcast “Armchair Expert.” Bless This Mess is conceived as a single-camera comedy and will begin shooting in June.
