Black Lightning Season 4 is happening! Which means we’ll get to continue watching Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) and fam continue to work to save their home of Freeland from the villains—both real and fictional—that plague its streets. As one of the few network TV shows that centers black community and family, it’s good to know that this excellent superhero show will continue to have the chance to tell its story.
The CW granted early renewals to a total of 13 of its already-running series for the 2020-2021 season. In addition to Black Lightning, Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow, and The Flash were all granted additional seasons. Outside of the superhero realm, Riverdale, Nancy Drew, Roswell, New Mexico, All American, Charmed, Dynasty, In the Dark, andLegacies were all picked up again for another season. Katy Keene, a Riverdale spinoff starring Lucy Hale that premieres on February 6th, was given an additional 13 episodes.
“These early orders for next season give our production teams a head start in plotting out story arcs and a jump on hiring staff, and this also provides us with a strong foundation of established, fan-favorite CW shows to build on for next season,” said CW prez Mark Pedowitz.
“We’ve been thrilled with the creative direction of all three new series,” Pedowitz continued, “and even though we are in the very early stages of our new full stack streaming strategy, which allows viewers to catch up on our new shows from the beginning, we’re already seeing incredibly positive results from our multiplatform viewership for Nancy Drew and Batwoman.”
Black Lightning is currently in the midst of its third season.
