Scott Pilgrim Vs The World review round-up

The first reviews of Edgar Wright's film of Scott Pilgrim Vs The World are on their way in. And the news is very good indeed...

Over in the States, a collection of lucky souls have been able to clasp their eyes on Edgar Wright’s eagerly-awaited film of Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, with the film premiering at Comic-Con over the last weekend, and then enjoying its formal West Coast premiere in Los Angeles yesterday.

The vast majority of the reviews that are up so far are from websites and blogs, but that’s not to temper in the slightest what people are saying. Because the news that is coming appears to be very good, indeed: Scott Pilgrim may yet prove to be the post-Inception highlight of the summer (although there’s still The Expendables, of course, but you’ll have to wait until next week for our review of that…)

First Showing

“I can really only speak for myself and what I thought of Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim adaptation and I truly did love it, as I expected I would. If you’re also of this generation and love comic books, video games, and great music as much as I do, make it your mission to see Scott Pilgrim vs. the World at any cost, you won’t be let down.”

Cinematical

“Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is an ambitious, one-of-a-kind, fully-realized, smart, sensitive and satisfying work of cinema – and one so confident in its execution that being hated by some is scarcely more than another battle en route to really being loved.”

G4TV

“I’m not much for hyperbole, but I’m going to completely go against the grain by announcing that Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is the best comic book movie ever made. Hands down. Sure, The Dark Knight was an experience, but this movie is the most faithful adaptation of a comic book that I’ve ever seen.”

Hollywood News

“Scott Pilgrim dotes on the weight of young love, with all its kisses and warts, and how often we’re reminded that the fling was as short and adolescent as a videogame. ‘Game Over’ might be flashing on the screen, but the experience was a hell of a lot of fun – and “Scott Pilgrim” is surely that.”

Ugo

“Edgar Wright has used O’Malley’s source material to give us something that rare thing – a new style of film. And that is truly an epic win.”

Reel Loop

“For a generation of movie watchers (likely those who are around 10 to 14 years old) Scott Pilgrim vs. The World will be a Goonies or Three Ninjas or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It is a unique romp that stands apart from most everything else, even its own writer/director’s oeuvre.”

Film School Rejects

“The movie is a wound up fastball of joy, and it’s all wrapped up in a neat little package of self-awareness, classic style humor, and a huge heart that is made out of pixels.”
