Oscars 2022: Complete List of Winners
The 94th annual Academy Awards are here, and we are updating the Oscar winners live!
After an Oscars ceremony like the one we just saw Sunday night, complete with the slap heard around the world, the winners seem almost like an afterthought. But this was a history-making Academy Awards, and not just because of the instant viral moment made by Will Smith and Chris Rock. Indeed, CODA did what seemed unlikely even two weeks ago, and rallied public support that carried it all the way from being a “small” release on Apple TV+ last summer to the Best Picture winner.
Indeed, CODA is the first streaming film to win Best Picture, breaking through a ceiling that Netflix has continually struggled with year after year, including this year when the evening’s seeming frontrunner, The Power of the Dog, nearly went home empty-handed save for a major Oscar win for Jane Campion as Best Director. The tides were clearly turning, too, after CODA unexpectedly beat Campion and Power of the Dog in the Best Adapted Screenplay category.
It was also a significant night for Dune, which picked up six technical Oscars, including in major categories like Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, and Best Film Editing. Although if you watched live, it was hard to notice the last two since both categories were inexplicably announced before the telecast. And one of the reasons the awards were apparently not shown live was to make room for the Academy’s already infamous “#OscarsFanFavorite” award, which seemed designed to award the most popular movies of the year–say Dune or Spider-Man: No Way Home–yet went to… Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead?
So yes, an Oscars like no other! Winners are below.
