Halloween Kills Casts Anthony Michael Hall as Tommy Doyle

Little Tommy Doyle told Laurie Strode in 1978’s Halloween that “you can’t kill the boogeyman,” and he was right. Forty years after his original murder spree through Haddonfield, Illinois, Michael Myers returned to finish what he’d started. And in Halloween Kills, he’ll get another stab at it and it sounds like it won’t end well for the grown up Tommy who will also appear in the highly-anticipated sequel. Variety reports that Anthony Michael Hall (The Dead Zone) will play the role of Tommy decades after he was originally terrorized by the Shape.

Originally played by Brian Andrews, Tommy has been recast more times than Laurie has. Marvel star Paul Rudd played him in 1995’s Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers in his first starring role. In that movie, an older Tommy has become obsessed with Michael and unraveled a conspiracy involving an evil cult working out of Smith’s Grove Sanitarium. Skyler Gisondo was later cast as Tommy in the 2007’s Rob Zombie reboot. 

And now Tommy will exist in yet another Halloween timeline (there are at least four at this point). While he’s survived every movie thus far, probably due to a healthy amount of fear of the boogeyman, who knows what awaits him when he returns to his living nightmare four decades later. Hopefully, he’ll gave the badass, gun-toting Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) to protect him this time.

David Gordon is back to direct back-to-back sequels — Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends — with Danny McBride back as his collaborator. Kills was written by Green, McBride, and Scott Teems, while Green, McBride, Paul Brad Logan, and Chris Bernier penned Ends. Malek Akkad, Jason Blum, and Bill Block are back to produce; John Carpenter and Jamie Lee Curtis return as exec producers as well. 

After 2018’s excellent Halloween reboot scored a $255 million global box office, it looks like the boogeyman is in very good hands. That’s bad news for poor Tommy. 

Halloween Kills is out on Oct. 16, 2020 and will be followed by Halloween Ends on Oct. 15, 2021.
