Dwayne Johnson Confirms Journey 3 is Dead
The Rock won't be making the planned sequel to Journey 2: The Mysterious Island...
When you put Michael Caine on the back of a giant wasp, and get The Rock doing some peck-popping work, you do suspect you’ll get some box office interest. Yet Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, the sequel to the 3D Brendan Fraser vehicle Journey To The Center Of The Earth, was a solid hit back in 2012. In fact, a bigger hit than many were expecting.
So much so, in fact, that the franchise was set to extend by another feature. Director Brad Peyton initially signed up for the third film, having directed the second, and writers Brian and Mark Gunn were hired to pen a script. Dwayne Johnson was expected to return, with Josh Hutcherson, too. But the increasingly busy schedule of Dwayne Johnson seems to have contributed to the death of this project.
And now, to nobody’s surprise, Mr. Johnson has officially crossed a project off his to-do list. The planned third Journey film, the untitled Journey 3, has now died a death, as he revealed via his Twitter account…
Johnson has worked with the director of Journey 2, Brad Peyton, on San Andreas and the upcoming Rampage since. The pair were both set to make Journey 3 together, but have found themselves not short of other projects…
