Resident Evil 8 Will Have First-Person Gameplay

Somewhat surprisingly, Capcom is sticking with the first-person perspective for Resident Evil 8.

Resident Evil 8 First Person Gameplay

It sounds like Capcom is planning to stick with the first-person perspective of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard when it comes to designing the gameplay of Resident Evil 8, the next mainline entry in the beloved zombie-shooting video game franchise.

But however interesting this nugget of new information is, it’s worth remembering that this game is yet to be officially announced and everything we hear about Resident Evil 8 should currently be treated as an unconfirmed rumor.

Reports of Resident Evil 8 having a first-person perspective previously appeared on the fan site Biohazardcast and the YouTube channel Residence Of Evil, and now Eurogamer has commented on the story. Apparently, what these fan sites are saying “tallies with what Eurogamer has heard independently of the game from sources close to publisher Capcom.”

And so, it seems very possible that there is truth to this rumor, and we may well be living in a universe where the next mainline Resident Evil game is another first-person one. To longtime fans of the franchise, this may well come as a surprise.

After all, the first-person perspective of 2017’s Resident Evil 7: Biohazard marked a significant change in style for the franchise, and many assumed that it simply existed to tie in with that particular game’s VR elements. And since last year’s hugely popular Resident Evil 2 remake reverted to a more traditional third-person perspective, you might’ve expected that sort of third-person experience to become the norm of the franchise.

If these reports are true, though, it sounds like Resident Evil 8 will be another first-person title. But that doesn’t mean you won’t have any new third-person Resi experiences to enjoy: after all, this year’s incoming Resident Evil 3 remake is sure to be a third-person experience in the style of that Resident Evil 2 remake.

Whichever way you prefer to play, then, you’ll be able to get it with an upcoming Resident Evil game. There are worse universes to live in.
