Star Wars Day: Celebrate May 4th with these Lego anniversary sets
Lego is currently celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Star Wars sets, so why not indulge in some bricky goodness this May 4th?
It may be based some whimsical wordplay, but since the ‘70s May 4th has been a fun day to celebrate all things Star Wars. However you choose to spend the day (we’ll be watching the Rise of Skywalker trailer on repeat), you can’t go wrong with a bit of Lego. And you’re in luck! The company is currently celebrating its own anniversary 20 years after it’s brilliant Star Wars playsets were introduced into the world.
We’ve listed these special sets – which all include one piece of a minifigure set of Leia, Lando, Luke, Darth Vader and Han that can be joined together – below, but they’re not the only thing worth getting exciting about this year.
If you’re a Lego VIP then you’ll be able to get your hands on the brand new Tantive IV set a day early on May 3rd and, even if you’re not, then it becomes available on Star Wars Day itself. You can find the set over on the Lego store.
1. Slave 1 – 20th Anniversary Edition
Price: £110
The anniversary edition of Boba Fett’s Slave 1 ship is the priciest in the collection, but it’s well worth the cash when you consider that alongside the main set you get Fett, Han Solo, Zuckuss and 4-LOM minifigures, a bonus Princess Leia with a special display stand, a detachable cockpit canopy, and fun extras including Han Solo in carbonite. Whether you want this for yourself or for a younger family member, it’s sure to provide hours of enjoyment.
2. Snowspeeder – 20th Anniversary Edition
Price: £35
Including Luke Skywalker and Dak Ralter minifigures (both in their pilot suits) along with a Rebel Trooper and bonus Lando anniversary figure, the special edition Snowspeeder set is an updated version of the 1999 release based on scenes from Empire Strikes Back. Once put together, the Snowspeeder itself sports laser cannons, a spring-loaded shooter under the wing, a stud shooter and a harpoon on the back. A classic, this is also one set that’s just as much fun after it’s built.
3. Anakin’s Podracer – 20th Anniversary Edition
Price: £25
If you’re that member of your friendship group who still makes sure to defend The Phantom Menace, or you’re just a completist, then this special edition Podracer from the first prequel movie is a brilliant purchase. We’re not entirely sure why the set includes a Luke Skywalker minifigure as its special 20th anniversary extra – other than the fact he didn’t fit anywhere else – but the Anakin and Padme (with brand new wig element) figures are great and the former fits right inside the cockpit.
4. Clone Scout Walker – 20th Anniversary Edition
Price: £25
Based on characters and scenes from across the Star Wars prequel series, the Clone Scout Walker special edition certainly gives you bang for your buck. Featuring a Darth Vader minifigure, the set also includes figures for a Kashyyyk Trooper, Wookie Warrior (possibly Chewie) and Battle Droid. To build there’s, of course, the main attraction, but also a Dwarf Spider Droid with stud shooter, as well as a trench section with its own gun. Pose the Scout Walker, ready the troops, and play away to your heart’s content.
5. Imperial Dropship – 20th Anniversary Edition
Price: £20
An update of the 2008 set, this Imperial Dropship comes with three Stormtroopers with stud blasters, a Shadow Trooper (who sadly doesn’t get his own blaster) and – last but not least – a special edition Han Solo figure with detachable stand. The Stormtroopers have an updated helmet design and, if that wasn’t enough to take your fancy, the dropship itself is pretty snazzy, with an opening cockpit and detachable platform with storage for the blasters.
