Roman Reigns Announces His Return to WWE

Reigns is returning to WWE after announcing his leukemia is in remission ...

Roman Reigns returned to WWE last night on Monday Night Raw, announcing that his leukemia was in remission and “the Big Dog is back.”

Reigns opened last night’s show to a huge ovation from the live crowd in Atlantic. Reigns relinquished the WWE Universal Championship this past October after announcing on Raw that his leukemia had returned after he had been in remission for 11 years. Reigns announced last night that he was in remission again, and hinted at a return to the ring, but no specifics were given.

It makes sense that Reigns could be inserted into the title picture, especially given that he was the champion when he left the company to battle the disease. Right now, his former Shield mate, Seth Rollins, is slated to face Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 35 in New York.

After Reigns cut his promo to announce his return, Rollins came to the stage and hugged him. Later in the show, Reigns and Rollins made the save on Dean Ambrose, who was being attacked by Drew Galloway, Bobby Lashley and Elias.

Back in October, on the same night that Reigns announced his leukemia had returned, Ambrose turned heel on Rollins and they engaged in a feud that lasted throughout last fall and culminated in a match on Raw last month, where Rollins picked up a clean victory. Later that night, PWTorch reported that Ambrose informed WWE management on his intentions to leave the company when his contract expires in Apri.

There was no Shield reunion last night on Raw, but it was teased. Rollins and Reigns saved Ambrose from the beating, but the show cut to a commercial break before Ambrose got up from the corner. Rollins and Reigns stood in the ring and stared down the heels, as they retreated up the ramp.

Reigns’ return to the ring could be held off until WrestleMania, although it would make some sense for WWE to do a Shield reunion before Ambrose leaves the company. The Shield vs. Galloway, Lashley and Elias seems like a six-man tag match that they’ll do at some point, whether it’s now or the Raw after WrestleMania.
