“Sometimes you need to scorch everything to the ground, and start over,” Celeste Ng wrote in her best-selling novel Little Fires Everywhere. Other times, you just move on to a new role.
Reese Witherspoon, who starred with Nicole Kidman on the HBO series Big Little Lies, will team with Scandal‘s Kerry Washington for a limited series based on Ng’s book, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show will be written, run and produced by Liz Tigelaar, who ran the Hulu series Casual. Little Fires Everywhere has also landed at Hulu, who recently released the first photo from the series. Witherspoon and Washington will both executive produce Little Fires Everywhere. The project is being put together by Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine, Washington’s Simpson Street, and ABC Signature Studios.

The novel was Reese’s Book Club x Hello Sunshine’s September 2017 book pick. Witherspoon is currently working on three TV series, including Big Little Lies Season 2, and an untitled Apple series that will co-star Jennifer Aniston.

Little Fires Everywhere Story
Little Fires Everywhere is set in Shaker Heights, the upscale community just outside Cleveland, Ohio where Ng grew up, in the 1990s. When a single mother and her teenage daughter rent a home nearby, they become entangled in the lives of the wealthy Richardson family and also in a custody battle over a Chinese-American baby.
Hulu’s official description of the story reads: “Based on Celeste Ng’s 2017 bestseller, Little Fires Everywhere follows the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and an enigmatic mother and daughter who upend their lives. The story explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, the ferocious pull of motherhood – and the danger in believing that following the rules can avert disaster.”
