Some movies and TV shows are beloved because every line is perfectly written and every performance deserves an award. These are not those movies and TV shows. Sometimes the dialogue is painfully awkward, an actor delivers a line in a way nobody would speak in real life, or a storyline becomes so ridiculous that questioning it feels pointless. And yet, none of that necessarily makes something less entertaining. In fact, the flaws can become part of what people love about it. Great television and movies do not always have to be technically great, and these titles have the fan bases, memes, and rewatches to prove it. Here are 15 projects with objectively bad acting and writing, but nobody really cares.

Star Wars Prequel Trilogy

The prequels gave us stiff romantic dialogue, awkward line readings, and Anakin complaining about sand. They also gave fans an endlessly quotable trilogy that has somehow become more beloved with age.

Glee

Characters changed personalities whenever the plot needed them to, storylines disappeared without warning, and realism left the building almost immediately. None of that stopped Glee from becoming ridiculously addictive television.

Twilight

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart spend a remarkable amount of the first movie staring intensely at each other between awkward pauses. Somehow, that strange energy is now inseparable from what makes Twilight so rewatchable.

The Room

Tommy Wiseau’s dialogue and performances have been picked apart for decades, but fixing them would completely defeat the point. The movie became a cult phenomenon precisely because almost nothing about it works normally.

Riverdale

Riverdale started with a murder mystery and eventually gave its characters superpowers, alternate universes, and increasingly unhinged dialogue. By that stage, asking the show to make sense was clearly missing the fun.

Batman & Robin

Arnold Schwarzenegger fires off ice puns while George Clooney’s Batman carries a credit card. It is difficult to defend any of this as serious filmmaking, which is also why the movie has become such entertaining camp.

High School Musical

Nobody at East High talks like an actual teenager, and plenty of the performances have exactly the earnestness you would expect from a Disney Channel movie. That sincerity is also a huge part of its charm.

Cobra Kai

The adults repeatedly solve decades-old grudges through increasingly elaborate karate warfare involving teenagers. The show commits so completely to the absurdity that questioning its logic eventually becomes impossible.

Showgirls

The performances are enormous, the dialogue is frequently bizarre, and almost every scene operates at maximum intensity. What was once considered an infamous disaster has since developed a devoted camp following.

Pretty Little Liars

Years of twists required increasingly ridiculous explanations, suspicious behavior, and characters making decisions no reasonable person would make. Fans still spent seven seasons trying to figure out who “A” was.

Mamma Mia!

Pierce Brosnan singing ABBA is not exactly what anyone would call technically flawless. Fortunately, technical perfection matters very little when everyone involved appears to be having this much fun.

The Fast and the Furious Franchise

The franchise gradually traded street racing for increasingly impossible action and speeches about family delivered with total sincerity. Its refusal to acknowledge how ridiculous things have become is practically the entire appeal.

Gossip Girl

These supposedly sophisticated Manhattan teenagers routinely make choices that would destroy several adult lives before lunchtime. The plotting is outrageous, the dialogue is dramatic, and that is exactly what viewers showed up for.

Camp Rock

The acting can be broad, the dialogue is unmistakably Disney Channel, and “She’s Really Good” became a meme for a reason. None of that has stopped a generation from knowing practically every song.

Grey’s Anatomy

After decades of disasters, romances, secret relatives, medical miracles, and catastrophes, realism is no longer really the assignment. Viewers accepted that bargain a long time ago and kept coming back anyway.
