Usually, we stare at pictures because they contain something we like, something that calls to us in a meaningful way. This isn’t a set of those images; instead, we’ve gathered a lot of examples of images that make you do a double take. Is what you saw really what’s going on?

Well, it is and it isn’t, and we’ll have to go on a case-by-case basis. There are cases where what you see is literally what is going on, and it’s just hard to process how ridiculous it looks. The other cases are a trick, where the situation isn’t what you saw at first, although that doesn’t necessarily make it better.

Depending on the angle, this cap can make you look like a sort of cheap mime. However, if you get that tear sunburned into your cheek, you can get the look semi-permanently.

Don’t let the poor quality of the picture fool you, this is just a man with a shirt, not a topless muscular man. It requires a certain kind of bravery to wear that kind of shirt.

Assuming the screw was properly sanitized, this is still an incredibly bad idea. Still, people have put strange things on their ears before, and this one is at least properly bolted.

Yes, this is the same picture simply turned upside-down. Back in the day, this was the only way to get the double-take effect, before pictures and the internet were made more widespread.
