Have you recovered from Arrow‘s Prometheus reveal yet? Because we’re diving back into the Big Bad’s plan to “burn the world around [Oliver Queen],” as he put it, in tonight’s episode.

We chatted with Segarra, who plays Adrian Chase/Prometheus about how Prometheus was formed and what he will do next…

On Prometheus’ origins…

Though Arrowis playing the details of Chase’s origin as Prometheus pretty close to the chest, we have some details about how the man became the monster. Segarra said…

You wonder how long Chase has been planning all this. Well, I guess that answer is when he lost his father, right? But how long has he been plotting what he’s going to do? It all started at the very beginning, so he’s been thinking about this since the very beginning. Now, he’s here [in Oliver’s life].

For me, one of the interesting aspects of Chase’s character is how full of a life he seems to have. He’s great at his job, has a mother who will do anything to protect him, and a seemingly loving wife who will rush to his hospital bed when he is injured.

Segarra agrees that it presents an interesting complication to his character, saying…

When I read about Adrian Chase, when I learned about who he was in the comics, his story, it is close. It’s relative to what we have on screen. When you learn about who Vigilante was, when you learn about who Prometheus was, you take all the scenarios …

You see him in the hospital. You see his wife is there … At the time, everyone was like, ‘Of course, that was his wife. Of course that makes sense. The guy has a wife.’ But, now that we know I’m Prometheus, you’re wondering, ‘Man, this guy, who is skilled with this weaponry who has devoted his life now to burning the world around Oliver Queen, he also goes home and likes shares dinner with his wife, right?’

Segarra justifies that within the Chase character by tying it into what drives Prometheus. It all goes back to Chase losing his father and his decision to go after the guy who killed him. “In that, I also have to protect the things that matter to me,” Segarra said, adding: “I wanted to introduce a real, ‘What made this guy who he is? Why is he doing what he does?’ And, yeah, our families are part of that.”

On what Prometheus will do next…

Right now, the audience (and Susan Williams, I guess) is in the know about Prometheus’ identity, but Team Arrow is still out of the loop. That obviously won’t be the case forever. Teasing the eventual Prometheus reveal to Oliver, Segarra said:

Very soon, you are going to see how it affects Oliver and how it affects Chase. Because you’ve watched these men side by side. You’ve watched Oliver let Chase in. He’s let him into the circle, and, now, his world got flipped upside-down. So you will see very quickly, and I think it’s very fun to watch how Steve handles it. What he does with it is very cool.

Chase has spent the entire season getting to know Oliver. While Segarra said this hasn’t changed his opinion of the man (yep, still wants to torture him), it has perhaps informed how he can go about that torture…

[Chase]’s making sure that all the pieces are set so that, when the day comes — he knows he’s gonna be revealed, right? Chase knows that they’re gonna find out who he is — but he wants to make sure that, when they do, OK, the table is set. The meal is out. Your plate is served. Come on over. Let’s see how this goes now. And I think that that’s what he’s been doing.

So, it’s definitely influenced how Chase has been handling it because he’s gotten closer to Oliver, right? I know that Chase came into it with one thing in mind and, along the way, he’s gotten to see the pieces of the puzzle clearer. He sees who matters in Oliver’s life. He’s seeing who Oliver has soft spots for, right? Who penetrates that armor? Because that’s what Chase is doing. He’s trying to penetrate that armor so that, that way, he can just burn the world around him.

Speaking of people who matter to Oliver, let’s talk Team Arrow. Segarra said that Chase doesn’t necessarily see them as evil so much as a means to an end: torturing Oliver. (Have we mentioned that Chase wants to torture Oliver? Because he really, really does.)

One character we haven’t seen Prometheus go after at all is Felicity, which is a bit of surprise given her very publicly important role in Oliver’s life. Here’s what Segarra teased…

I am dying to start introducing that color [of Chase seeing how important people are to Oliver] to Wild Dog, to Dinah Drake, to the people around him and, of course, Felicity. She’s a piece of the puzzle that I know. Chase is coming. He’s coming for this guy, and he knows that pieces that matter to him. He’s coming for them.

Um, watch out, Team Arrow.
