A costume test image of Nicolas Cage as Superman arrives online: but is it real?

A clip has been uploaded on the Internet that purports to be the Nicolas Cage costume test from the long-abandoned Tim Burton project, Superman Lives.

Long before Bryan Singer and Brandon Routh got involved, Burton and Cage were the two who were set to bring the Man of Steel back to the big screen. And this short video, uploaded by TimBurton.jp, brings together a few concept drawings, and a picture of what's supposedly Nicolas Cage's costume test from the film.

Of course, there's every possibility we could be looking at a fake here, and the quality of a YouTube clip makes it pretty much impossible to tell. Have a look yourself and see what you think...

Erm... I hate to naysay and all that, but that looks like a pretty naff composit over an action figure rather than a genuine costume test. Either that, or I'm now very grateful for the Superman Returns movie we got instead!

Superman Returns was a yawnfest, I couldnt even make it through the DVD, but Burtons vision would have been at the very least, terribly interesting.

I don't think Burton got Superman at all, not that Bryan Singer really did, although I'd personally like to keep Burton away from comic books. However, I echo the thought that it's Nicholas Cage's head on an action figure.

Incredible. I love Nic Cage and his girlier-than-girlish hair. Burton would have made an ace Supes movie. Cage would have f*cked up the whole show though. Cage, you big-haired, slack-jawed fool.

Cage's face looks a little young and they cut away from it really quick. I think it's probably a fake. I like the sketch of the costume though.
