Well I'm getting more and more used to the Doctor's new outfit, and Karen Gillan looks great, as ever. However, I'm not sure what the benefit was of shooting footage especially for a trailer- it did look a little odd. I'm not too worried though given the footage we saw from the first trailer.

i think i will have to get used to not seeing david tennants face as the doctor. But i have to say that the trailer is a bit over the top for doctor who.

Okay. That trailer is just horrific. It looks as if it was made for kids. I mean really young kids.

This article doesn't say that this is a cinema trailer and is being shown in 3d before alice in wonderland (oops!). The next series is of *course* pitched at kids, like every episode of doctor who has been (except for when it was getting 3m viewers). It's still full of amazing stuff, like Doctor Who doing Aliens but with weeping angels in episodes 4 and 5. Watch that and tell me it's for young kids.

Perhaps looks like it's been made for kids, Mintpie, is because it's a children's tv show.
Trailer was alright, but I'm still not sure what to think about Series 5/Series 1/Season 31. Hopefully we won't have too long to wait.

My first viewing of this trailer left me a bit concerned, and missing the outgoing production team's firm hand on the tiller. Although trailers using new material have been produced in the past, they've been a little less...well...lame. A dalek in a bubble? An unconvincing prosthetic mask bursting through the picture at the end? Hmm. I know my beloved Who is primarily a children's show, but since the show's revival there has been a careful balance between keeping children engaged and entertaining more "senior" viewers - essential in a true family show. I'm reassured by Interference 1's comment. I can see how this trailer might work in the cinema; and I guess I just have to keep the faith. The Moff can't possibly screw this up...can he?

Hmmm interesting about it being made for the cinema. If it is in 3D then it'd at least explain why they couldn't just use clips from upcoming episodes. On repeat viewing I have warmed to it a little, though the (presumably Silurian?) mask thing at the end remains unforgivably lame even by 3D gimmick standards.

Perhaps I'm just more a bit of a kid at heart than others posting above, but I loved this trailer! I'm all goose-pimply in anticipation of Easter! Oh, and Matt Smith's voice is really cool, too. I was caught off guard for a moment, as I don't recall his voice sounding like that from the concluding moments of "End of Time". And just one more thing... Karen Gillan is absolutely, positively GORGEOUS! (My hearts are all atwitter!)

Good trailer, clearly pitched at getting a new audience of kids interested. I love the star gazing scene, it's very optimistic and full of potential. (As I predicted elsewhere) Easter Saturday April 3rd looks like the start date. Then again it may even be Good Friday, Easter Day or Easter Monday... ;o)Could the BBC yet be about to treat us to the one hour special opener The Eleventh Hour on Good Friday followed by episode 2 The Beast Below on Easter Saturday?? Whatever we are approx. six weeks away and six weeks on from New Years Day so this is obviously a mid point trailer... Future trailers may be more graphic and adult (in a tasteful way!) to reassure the older viewers... Who knows? well Steven Moffat does I suppose!;o)

Personally I thought it looked a bit shit, but then I remembered that its actually designed to be shown in 3D. I have a sneaking suspicion that it will look rather spiffing as a teaser/trailer in a 3D cinema.

p.s. Its a gimmick really, not a trailer.

As a fan of the show I look forward to seeing the new season. I think DW sets a precedent for change in how a show goes about. Yea new doc, maybe even a new way of telling the story. No matter its still Doctor Who and I look forward to watching it.

Not impressed, but I am reserving any serious judgements until a few episodes have aired. Always takes a while to get used to a new Doctor.

The more I see of him the more I think that Matt Smith is going to take a lot of getting use to.

I reckon this teaser is reaching out to the audiences that may not be watching the show and those who want to give up on the series because Tennant is no longer the Doctor (thank goodness!). And by God do Moffat and co have a fight on their hands if their gonna break through all those Tennant groupies who think he's the one and only! For my money, the brief glimpses of Matt Smith and Karen Gillan have been an impressive return to the kind of Doctor Who that has been missing these five long years. The signs are good so far. Roll on new series!

CybexAl, I thought DT would be an awful doc when he was announced (too young), but I have to give him full credit for doing a bang-up job in the role. He'll be a hard act to follow.

Matt Smith is too young too, but he seems a lot older looking in the publicity stills than in previous photos, so he may just pull it off. (In case you're wondering, my favourite doc was Pertwee, with Troughton 2nd, so I prefer our 800-year-old hero to look a bit more his age!).

I can't shake feeling of unease about the forthcoming new series. This trailer just screamed 'Twilight' to me, which is great for 14 year old girls, not so great for everyone else who watches Who. If anyone reading this is a fan of Twilight: I don't mean to sound petulant, but Doctor Who is a show that has to extend it's appeal beyond any one genre. I don't mind if the trailer seems especially geared towards kids because that audience is a vital part of what keeps Doctor Who going-- but changing the tone of a show to mimick something else is wrong. Worrying too-- surely Doctor Who has a strong enough identity of it's own? It doesn't need to pretend to be anything other than Doctor Who. I kind of liked the star gazing thing, but I think it's self defeating as Doctor Who stories mostly take place on Earth. I note from the descriptions of all the S5 episodes that they are all Earth bound, and within a time scale of about a thousand years. BBC budgets and jitters about making Who 'too sci-fi' aside, why would you sell the show as being able to go any place, any time when you stick broadly to the same spot every week?
I love Matt Smith's costume, I think he comes across as very likable in interview and I've enjoyed some of his other work. However, I just can't shake the feeling that he's punching above his weight here. I'll reserve final judgement until I've seen all of series five (let's be fair-- probably only Tom Baker and Chris Eccleston ever really hit the ground running with Who, and even then that's debatable), but there wasn't much in this trailer to allay my fears. Still-- it's Stephen Moffat. He's the best writer Doctor Who has had since Robert Holmes and Terry Nation-- is he really going to drop the ball with this? Surely not.

Is it just me, or does the new doctor look like he's wearing a 'scream' mask beneath six tons of makeup. Very disconcerting. Trailer was entertaining enough though.

People, Doctor Who is aimed towards an audience and not specifically towards and age group. I know that some of you out there will no doubt want to reply back and say that they are the same thing. I however think that this season of Doctor will be aimed towards an audience that enjoys Doctor Who - this could be kids or adults.
The intro DOES look like it is kids orientated, however think of the adversaries that were shown in the trailer, The Weeping Angels - from an episode described as one of the most scary Dr Who episodes ever shown. The Daleks, even the old school Silurians!! These characters seem to be to be distinctively adult orientated to me.
Anyway, bring on Season 5 as I am looking forward to it immensely.
