More details on Doctor Who: The End Of Time, and a picture of David Tennant doing Buzzcocks, as the BBC announces its Yuletide line-up…

Yesterday, the BBC unveiled some of the goodies that we can be expecting to see on our screens over the Christmas season, and this included furnishing us with more details on the forthcoming Doctor Who adventure, The End Of Time Parts One and Two.
So let's start there. David Tennant's final two episodes, as you might have heard, are being screened over Christmas, with the first arriving on Christmas Day. The BBC describes them thus:
Part One:
"It's the Tenth Doctor's final journey - but his psychotic nemesis the Master has been reborn, on Christmas Eve. With both determined to cheat death, the battle ranges from the wastelands of London to the mysterious Immortality Gate, while the alien Ood warn of an even greater danger approaching, as a terrible shadow falls across the entire Universe.
David Tennant stars as the Tenth Doctor and guest stars include John Simm, Bernard Cribbins, Catherine Tate, Timothy Dalton, David Harewood and June Whitfield.
The End Of Time - Part One is written by Russell T Davies and directed by Euros Lyn. The producer is Tracie Simpson."
Part Two:
"The Doctor faces the end of his life as the Master's plans hurtle out of control. With the sound of drums growing louder, and an ancient trap closing around the Earth, the Doctor and Wilf must fight alone. But sacrifices must be made, and the deadly prophecy warns: "He will knock four times."
David Tennant stars as the Tenth Doctor and guest stars include John Simm, Bernard Cribbins, Catherine Tate, Timothy Dalton, David Harewood and June Whitfield.

Elsewhere, Catherine Tate is returning in her comedy guise to BBC One in Nan's Christmas Carol (which also features Matthew Horne, Ben Miller and Roger Lloyd Pack), while one of the Beeb's major productions is the half hour animated film it's showing of the book The Gruffalo (James Corden, John Hurt, Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane and Rob Brydon are on voicing duties).
Tragically, there's a Christmas special of My Family. We'll gloss over that, though. Do keep an eye out for the Outnumbered Christmas Special, however. That's likely to be much, much better. There's a new Royle Family episode, too, entitled The Golden Eggcup, and a one-off special, Victoria Wood's Mid-life Crisis. Albeit a one-off special with a separate making of programme, entitled What Larks! The Making Of Victoria Wood's Mid-life Crisis. Blimey.
Fans of David Tennant, and we suspect a few of them may be reading this site, will get extra doses over Christmas as BBC Two will be screening a filmed version of the Royal Shakespeare Company production of Hamlet. He's also guest-hosting Never Mind The Buzzcocks, too.
Finally, BBC Two also has scheduled Steve Coogan - The Inside Story, which it describes as "a quirky and unconventional look at the best of Steve Coogan's television work and character comedy". It'll feature newly-filmed sketches. So there.
