Edward Woodward: 1930-2009
Den Of Geek
The actor Edward Woodward, known to many of us as The Equalizer, has died...
Published on Nov 16, 2009
Den of Geek is sad to learn that the actor Edward Woodward has died, at the age of 79.
Woodward’s extensive career included films such as Who Dares Wins and The Wicker Man (and he surely earns bonus points for turning down a small part in the terrible remake), and he was more recently seen in a cameo role in Hot Fuzz.
But many of us, of course, will appreciate Woodward the most for his lead role in The Equalizer, as well as his work on Callan. More recently, he’d appeared in UK TV shows such as The Bill and EastEnders,
Woodward had been battling illness on and off for some time, and he is survived by his wife, Michelle Dotrice.
Thanks for everything and rest in peace, sir.

So sad to see him go. The Equalizer could never be remade because EW was so good in it that nobody else could even come close to him. RIP

He actually lived fairly near my town. Every once in a while you'd see him in the area.

Such a shame to hear the news about Edward Woodward. He was a part of my childhood with The Equalizer and also his part in Who Dares Wins (one of my favourite films). I don't know why but I always got the feeling he would make a brilliant Grandad. I have created a tribute to him at Friends At Rest.
If you would like to see it you can find it here:

May he rest in peace.

Don't forget Breaker Morant. A true loss. May he rest in peace.

Lord Olivier once described his great friend Edward's name as 'a fart in a bath'. That always makes me smile and remember, even more so now, that Edward Woodward was truly a warm and great personality. His great talent was, I feel, severely under-rated more often than not. RIP Edward. You will be missed.

Yes, definitely an underrated actor. I saw him on stage opposite Geraldine McEwan in Webster's White Devil and he was excellent. Breaker Morant is a good film. A shame he was miscast as Sherlock Holmes in one film -- what a great Dr Watson he would have been in his Callan days.
