DANNY RAMIREZ: ON THE MCU BLOCK

By Kirsten Howard

Danny Ramirez is a brand-new addition to the MCU, but The Falcon and the Winter Soldier isn’t his first brush with Marvel.

23-year-old Danny Ramirez leapt into the acting profession after studying at the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts in New York.

Ramirez started out doing commercials, and eventually snagged small parts in popular drama series like The Affair and Orange Is the New Black.

The actor won the Third Annual NYU Stonestreet Granite Award in 2018, which had previously been presented to his future Top Gun: Maverick co-star, Miles Teller.

He also picked up a small role in Fox’s X-Men series, The Gifted. It wouldn’t be the last time he featured in a Marvel TV show!

Until recently, Ramirez was best known for playing Mario in Netflix’s critically acclaimed teen comedy-drama, On My Block.

But in late 2020, it was announced that he had scored a pivotal role in Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Marvel managed to keep his character secret for a while, but when The Falcon and the Winter Soldier began streaming on Disney+ in March, all was finally revealed.

Ramirez plays Joaquin Torres, an enthusiastic U.S. Air Force lieutenant who helps Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson on his missions.

In Marvel Comics, Torres became the new Falcon after Sam took up the Captain America mantle.

Whether Torres will become Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains to be seen.

But we’ll see Ramirez hit the skies again in the long-awaited action sequel Top Gun: Maverick, where he plays a Weapons Systems Operator called Fanboy.

Danny Ramirez is definitely a young actor to look out for, especially if you’re looking skywards!
