Stellan Skarsgård has one film left on his Marvel contract, and it looks likely to be Avengers: Infinity War, he tells us.

Yesterday, while speaking to us about his next movie – the thrilling John le Carré adaptation Our Kind Of Traitor – the mighty Mr Stellan Skarsgård was also happy to discuss his future Marvel Studios commitments.

“I have a five-film deal with them, and they still have one option” he said, referring to the fact that he’s already appeared in four Marvel Cinematic Universe movies (Thor, The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World and Avengers: Age Of Ultron) as the genius scientist who sometimes likes to visit historical landmarks in his pants Dr Erik Selvig.

So what will that fifth film be? “Thor 3 is not on my slate”, Skarsgård admitted, “but maybe the next Avengers.”

This chimes with what we know about Thor: Ragnarok so far, which points towards Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder mainly steering clear of Earth for the duration of his third solo film, preferring to travel around the galaxy in a ‘universal road movie’/’buddy picture’ with Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk.

The next Avengers film, of course, will be Joe and Anthony Russo’s Avengers: Infinity War Part 1, expected to reach UK cinemas on 27th April 2018. We look forward to seeing more of Selvig in that movie, where hopefully his scenes won’t be chopped down in the editing process like they were in Age Of Ultron

Our Kind Of Traitor – in which Skarsgård plays a Russian gangster attempting to defect to the UK – will reach British screens on 13th May 2016.

Our full interview with Mr Skarsgård will be online closer to the time.
