SEBASTIAN STAN:
BEYOND THE WINTER SOLDIER
By Kirsten Howard
Sebastian Stan has become an indie darling while keeping up appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
38-year-old Romanian-American actor Sebastian Stan has been studying his craft for a long time. He started out acting in school productions, where he was a popular pick among his peers.
He has been a familiar face on TV and in movies since the ‘00s.
KINGS
Many genre fans remember his villainous role as warlock Chase Collins in Renny Harlin’s The Covenant early in his career.
While others recall first seeing him on the small screen in TV shows like Kings and Gossip Girl.

In 2011, he got his big break as Bucky Barnes in Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger.
Though his character seemingly died during the movie, Marvel Comics geeks sensed he would be back.
Indeed, he returned in the film’s sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, this time with a beefier part to play in Steve Rogers’ ongoing story.
Stan would go on to pop up in various Marvel Cinematic Universe entries, but was also working hard to make sure they weren’t all he was known for.
He starred in a range of high profile indie movies between MCU jobs, including Logan Lucky, I’m Not Here, Destroyer, and the Oscar-winning Tonya Harding biopic, I, Tonya.
I, TONYA
The Avengers: Infinity War star returns to the role of Bucky Barnes in this year’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
The Disney+ Marvel series offers Stan’s villain-turned-superhero center stage with Anthony Mackie’s Falcon, as the pair embark on a high-stakes global adventure.
Stan also has another high-profile project on the horizon called Pam & Tommy, where he will play Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee.
The upcoming series focuses on the late '90s sex tape scandal between Baywatch actress Pamela Anderson and rocker Lee. It’s sure to be one to watch!
