What’s Next for Netflix’s Castlevania

By John Saavedra

Netflix’s anime adaptation of the Castlevania video game series has ended, but could it rise back from the dead in the future?

We knew it going in: Castlevania season 4 is the end of the line for heroes Trevor, Sypha, and Alucard. Luckily, the final season really delivers!

But like Dracula himself, the series finale teases that the show won’t stay dormant for long.

By the end of the season, we’ve learned not only that Trevor and Sypha are having a child but that Dracula and Lisa Tepes have been resurrected back into their original bodies!

Could the ending be setting up a future battle between Trevor’s child and the resurrected Dracula?

The only thing we know for sure is that Netflix is already hard at work planning a new series set in the Castlevania universe. Whether it picks up where the last series left off, or explores uncharted territory, is anyone’s guess.

Since the video game franchise takes place across hundreds of years, and follows several generations of vampire hunters, there’s plenty of source material for Netflix’s next anime.

One possible setting for a Castlevania spinoff is the futuristic 2035 timeline, which stars fan-favorite monster slayer Soma Cruz. In fact, 2035 was already teased as a potential reality in season 3.

There’s also plenty of room to explore the life of Leon Belmont, Trevor’s ancestor. It would be an easy way for Netflix to go the prequel route.

Whatever the case, the spinoff has some very big shoes to fill. For now, Netflix’s Castlevania remains the best video game adaptation ever made!
