WHAT TO PLAY AFTER MASS EFFECT LEGENDARY EDITION

By Matthew Byrd

Mass Effect Legendary Edition is one of the most epic RPG collections in years, but what are you supposed to do once you beat it? Well, we have a few ideas...

The Dragon Age franchise is certainly your next best bet. In many ways, it's a fantasy version of Mass Effect that some consider to be BioWare's most impressive RPG series.

If you really want another BioWare sci-fi RPG, though, then you need to play Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. It's widely regarded as one of the best Star Wars stories ever told.

Deus Ex is another must-play sci-fi RPG experience. While not as "epic" as Mass Effect, this conspiracy theory RPG changed gaming in 2000 and holds up to this day.

Is Deus Ex too old for you? Well, there's always Cyberpunk 2077. The controversial RPG has improved a lot since launch and features some of Deus Ex' best ideas.

Of course, you could always just play The Witcher 3. It's another truly epic RPG that's best stories are often found off the beaten path.

If you miss Mass Effect's difficult decisions, then give Alpha Protocol a shot. This eternally underrated game is one of the most impressive examples of choice-based storytelling you’ll ever experience.

Speaking of underrated titles, you might want to check out Greedfall. This throwback to BioWare and Bethesda-style RPGs is nearly as good as the games it pays homage to.

Of course, you can't talk about homages without talking about The Outer Worlds. Considered to be a blend of KOTOR and Fallout, this is one of developer Obsidian's best RPGs in years.

If you miss commanding a spaceship crew, try Star Trek: Bridge Crew. This VR game makes you feel like you’re really running the Enterprise.

While Mass Effect: Andromeda doesn't live up to the standards of the original trilogy, it's obviously one of the best ways to experience more of the Mass Effect universe.
