MARY ELIZABETH WINSTEAD

FROM SOAP STAR TO ACTION HEROINE

By Kirsten Howard

In Netflix’s Kate, Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays an assassin who only has 24 hours left to live after being poisoned.

Winstead snagged her first proper acting role playing Jessica Bennett in the NBC soap opera Passions as a teenager.

The dancer-turned-actress featured in several notable movies before she became an action star, like Sky High, Final Destination 3 and Black Christmas.

But her path to kicking ass really started when she played the daughter of Bruce Willis’ John McClane in Live Free or Die Hard.

She continued to choose different and challenging roles in the years that followed, and you may remember seeing her in the likes of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, 10 Cloverfield Lane and The Thing.

Winstead also had a major part to play in the third season of Fargo as Nikki Swango, the girlfriend of Ewan McGregor’s struggling parole officer Ray Stussy.

McGregor and Winstead eventually became romantically involved in real life, and they now have a son together called Laurie.

The actress landed another major action part in DC’s 2020 Harley Quinn movie, Birds of Prey.

Winstead played The Huntress aka Helena Bertinelli, an expert markswoman who becomes involved with Harley after she breaks up with the Joker.

Now, she’s the lead of another high octane action movie at Netflix called Kate, where her deadly character goes on a manhunt through the streets of Tokyo.

We don’t think this will be the last time we see Winstead kicking ass and taking names!
