Back in 2019, news broke that Sophia Di Martino would be joining the high profile Disney+ series Loki.

Marvel kept the details surrounding her role in the new show under wraps.

The actress started out her career on UK TV in the mid-00s. Before that, she studied the Performing Arts at college and university.

Her first major TV part came along in 2008, when she was cast as Gemma Pennant in the British medical soap opera The Royal Today.

This was followed by notable appearances in Casualty, Mount Pleasant and 4 O'Clock Club.

But in 2016, she got her breakout role as Amy Flowers in the British black comedy-drama sitcom Flowers.

The show, written by her partner Will Sharpe, was lauded by critics. It landed a “100% fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Flowers followed a family headed up by depressed patriarch Maurice, played by Mighty Boosh comedian Julian Barratt. Di Martino played his musician daughter in the series.

The show really got the actress noticed, and she went on to score a role in Danny Boyle’s feature film Yesterday, which was a kind of love letter to The Beatles.

Now, Di Martino has joined the MCU with a huge part in Marvel Studios’ Loki.

The series catches up with a “Variant” version of the God of Mischief as he tries to forge a new life under the thumb of a bureaucratic organization known as the Time Variance Authority.

Loki will get to meet different versions of himself across time and space in the show, as he reckons with both the nature of his own identity and his future in the cosmos.

We’ll next see Di Martino starring in another of Will Sharpe’s projects.

In Louis Wain, she will lead a cast that includes other fellow Marvel stars like Benedict Cumberbatch and Toby Jones.
