Boba Fett

Is Back from the Dead

By John Saavedra

After decades of wondering whether Boba Fett survived the sarlacc pit, fans finally got to see the beloved bounty hunter back in action on The Mandalorian.

Despite his comical fate in Return of the Jedi, Fett’s resurgence proves that you can’t keep a good Star Wars character down.

The bounty hunter first revealed himself at the very end of The Mandalorian season 2 premiere, “The Marshal.” He’s played by Temuera Morrison, who portrayed Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones!

Since then, the bounty hunter had been tracking Mando, who recovered Fett’s armor from Cobb Vanth after helping the Tatooine marshal hunt down a massive krayt dragon.

Several episodes later, in “The Tragedy,” Fett caught up with Mando and Grogu on the planet Tython, the ancient birthplace of the Jedi.

The bounty hunter, now working with the assassin Fennec Shand, who was also thought dead, cornered Mando. Fett demanded the return of his armor.

But just as things were about to heat up between the two Mandalorian warriors, Moff Gideon and the Empire showed up to kidnap Grogu!

Although Gideon succeeded in capturing the little Force-sensitive hero, destroying Mando’s ship in the process, a re-armored Fett pledged to help his fellow Mandalorian rescue Grogu.

While it’s great to see Fett back in his famous armor, using all of his cool gadgets and weapons to take down stormtroopers, one question still remains: how the heck did he escape the sarlacc in the first place?

We don’t know for sure, but there’s a clear precedent for his storyline on The Mandalorian.

After all, Boba Fett also cheated death in the original Legends continuity, the Star Wars canon timeline that preceded the current Disney canon.

In Legends, Fett’s armor allowed him to survive the corrosive acid inside the sarlacc’s stomach long enough to trigger an explosion that destroyed the monster and freed the bounty hunter.

Fellow bounty hunter Dengar found Fett half-dead in the desert and nursed him back to health. The bounty hunter was saved!

Fett went on to have many more adventures in Legends canon. Eventually, he even became the leader of the Mandalorian people and helped save the galaxy a few times.

Time will tell if a similar destiny awaits Disney’s version of the bounty hunter. For now, we’re just glad Boba Fett is back!
