The 42-year-old actor has connections to the Marvel Cinematic Universe going back decades.

20 years ago, Mackie graduated from the Juilliard School alongside fellow MCU actor Lee Pace, who played Ronan the Accuser in Guardians of the Galaxy.

A year later, he was working as an understudy for War Machine Don Cheadle in a play called Topdog/Underdog.

His breakout movie role was starring in 8 Mile as Papa Doc.

Mackie later featured in Tupac Shakur biopic Notorious, which was written by the creator of Netflix’s Luke Cage series, Cheo Hodari Coker.

That same year, he appeared opposite ‘Hawkeye’ Jeremy Renner in the Oscar-winning war thriller, The Hurt Locker.

The respected actor’s MCU introduction as motivated veteran Sam Wilson happened in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

By the end of the film, Sam had taken up his wings to help the Avengers fight the good fight as superhero Falcon.

After Captain America opted for early retirement in Avengers: Endgame, he offered his shield to Sam.

In Marvel’s Disney+ spinoff series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson must explore the legacy of what it means to be Captain America.

When old enemy Baron Zemo reemerges Sam teams up with Steve Rogers’ oldest friend, Bucky Barnes, to investigate.

There’ll be political intrigue and infighting aplenty as the pair embark on a worldwide adventure that will also pull ex-SHIELD agent Sharon Carter into their orbit.

But will Sam decide to wield Cap’s shield forever?
