Marvel Reveals Juggernaut X-Men Spinoff

The unstoppable big bad of Deadpool 2 isn't allowed in the X-Men's clubhouse, so Juggernaut is off to figure out his place in the world.

Since the 1960s, the Juggernaut has always been a major part of the X-Men corner of Marvel. Even though – much like Dr. Doom – he’s one of those villains who can be plugged in against any hero, Juggernaut’s existence always comes back to his origins as Charles Xavier’s demented half-brother. Over the years, he’s become something of an antihero at times or at least on the cusp of true reform. He joined the X-Men for a time and became a member of the Thunderbolts. Recently, his return to villainy was based on Xavier’s not-so-permanent death at the hands of Cyclops, as Cain Marko realized that he actually kind of loved his step-brother for always believing in him.

Now that the X-Men are in the midst of a big status quo change that’s making them relevant again, it puts Cain in an interesting position. Not only is Professor Charles Xavier back (meaning Juggernaut no longer has to avenge him), but they’re in a very separatist mood. While Juggernaut seems like he’d be handy to have around on Krakoa, his powers are magic-based and not due to the mutant gene, so no Cain Marko allowed.

An outcast among outcasts. That’s rough.

With Xavier showing him the door, what’s the Juggernaut to do? We’ll find out starting in May as Juggernaut gets his own miniseries, written by Fabian Nicieza and drawn by Ron Garney.

Now that he can’t work with the X-Men and he isn’t stupid enough to fight a whole society of mutants, Juggernaut has to figure out a new purpose. He’ll apparently start working that out via meeting a new sidekick named D-Cel, a homeless teenage girl who has the ability to slow down enemies. And slow down Juggernaut himself, I suppose.

With Nicieza writing this, expect some awesome character moments countered by a confusing plot that will come off as white noise when you read it. We’re also getting a new design of Juggernaut’s armor, presumably tying into the fact that he’s been depowered/repowered for the umpteenth time.
