New Supergirl Costume Revealed at SDCC 2019

Kara Danvers gets a new look in Supergirl Season 5. Now the CW has provided a hi-res look at SDCC 2019.

Supergirl Season 5 will be flying onto our media screens before we know it, and the Woman of Steel has a whole new look. No, we’re not talking about Kara’s new bangs (though they are noteworthy). We’re referring to the new costume Supergirl will have in the upcoming season, recently previewed by Melissa Benoist on the actress’ Instagram page. Check it out…

Yep, Supergirl is trading in the skirt for some pants, which, frankly, are probably much more comfortable during those high-flying adventures (not to mention during the Vancouver winter). Benoist previously mentioned the new costume in an interview with Kevin Smith conducted a few days ago at TwitchPrimes Apex Legend 2019 Crown Cup.

At Supergirl‘s SDCC 2019 appearance, The CW revealed Supergirl’s new threads in full, high resolution glory.

Supergirl New Suit

Per the show’s press material, the new suit provides a purpose:

“The new suit, conceptualized by Supergirl costume designer Victoria Auth and created by Ironhead Studios and Bill Hargates Costumes, follows the evolution of supersuits in executive producer Greg Berlanti’s “Arrowverse,” which has seen redesigns of both the Arrow and Flash suits in recent years.”

Hopefully, the new look will help her take on Leviathan, the powerful secret organization teased in the Season 4 finale. In the final moments of the episode, Eve Teschmacher (Andrea Brooks) was approached by an old lady who told her: “Leviathan is everywhere. Leviathan is everyone. And Leviathan is coming.” Pants seem like the appropriate reaction.

“We’re beyond excited to update Supergirl’s iconic suit. We think her new image is strong and powerful. We hope the fans are as excited about it as we are,” executive producers Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner said in a statement.

Supergirl Season 5 has already begun filming and is set to premiere on Oct. 6, in a new timeslot: Supergirl will share Sundays with Batwoman, which will air at 8 pm, moving Kara and friends to the 9 pm hour. Worth it for this epic team-up, I think.

In addition the Leviathan storyline, Supergirl Season 5 will no doubt be leading up to the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, which promises to shake the Arrowverse to its very core.
