New Baldur’s Gate 3 Trailer Teases Gameplay Reveal

You won't have to wait much longer for your first proper look at Baldur's Gate 3.

Larian is preparing to reveal the gameplay for Baldur’s Gate III, the long-awaited new installment in the iconic RPG franchise. The existence of this new entry in the Dungeons & Dragons-based video game series was announced with a cinematic trailer at E3 2019, but the public has yet to clap eyes on any fully-fledged gameplay footage.

Of course, it goes without saying that fans are eager to see what Larian has been cooking up. The company has won a lot of goodwill with its handling of the Divinity franchise, but taking on the mantle of leading the Baldur’s Gate series comes with a whole new set of fan expectations. Nearly 20 years on from the release of BioWare’s Baldur’s Gate 2, fans have had plenty of time in which to fantasize about their dream direction for the franchise.

Will Larian be able to deliver something that the majority of fans enjoy? We won’t know for sure until Baldur’s Gate 3 is released, but the upcoming reveal of the first gameplay footage could give us an important early clue. If Larian can start playing the right notes now, long-terms fans would surely be happy. And they don’t have to wait much longer for this first look at the game.

The World Gameplay Reveal of Baldur’s Gate 3 will take place at Pax East (a gaming showcase that is set to take place late this month in Boston, MA). As Larian has announced with a trailer and a press release, this reveal will also be live-streamed to fans around the globe. The date and time to mark in your diary, if you were wondering, is February 27 at 15:30 ET.

The reveal at PAX East will consist of Larian’s studio head, Swen Vincke, playing the game live on stage “with a very special guest.” According to a press release, Vincke will be “revealing more about the story, mechanics, and the answers to much asked questions.” One of the biggest questions centers on the combat – what exactly will battles and fights look like in Baldur’s Gate 3? Hopefully, this is when we’ll find out.

Until then, the aforementioned trailer does give us some interesting developments. Sure, it’s an announcement of an upcoming reveal, but it still confirms that motion-capture is being used in the game and actors have been working with physical weaponry props on-set. Take a look for yourself…

Baldur’s Gate 3 is due for release on PC and Google Stadia, and we’ll be sure to bring you that reveal trailer as soon as we can.
