If Galaxy Questwere a TV show (which, I suppose it still could be), it would be Other Space, the offbeat science fiction comedy series from Paul Feig (Ghostbusters, Freaks and Geeks).
Never heard of Other Space? That’s cool. The 2015 Yahoo! Screen space comedy “aired” quietly via Yahoo! Screen and disappeared with Yahoo! Screen’s end… That is, until now. Feig has made all eight episodes of Other Spaceavailable for free online in the hopes that, by building a larger, international and domestic fanbase, the show will find a new broadcaster. #ShareOtherSpace, you guys.
Set in 2105 in the aftermath of the brutal war between the U.S. and Switzerland, Other Spaceis the story of a bickering crew of space explorers who get lose in an unknown universe during their first mission. (It’s like Star Trek: Voyager, but with a more incompetent crew. Or like Farscape, but with fewer Muppets.)
The short-lived show was well-reviewed by those who, you know, saw it, and currently holds an impressive 91% on Rotten Tomatoes (with 11 reviews — seriously, so few people have watched this show so far), was named one of the “20 Best TV Shows of 2015” by Rolling Stone, and io9 recently called it “The Best Space Comedy You’ve Never Seen.” Point is: nerds in the know like it, and you could, too. Then, we might all get a second season/reboot.
Feig said of the show and its untimely (temporary?) demise:
The fact nobody saw it, that’s what makes me crazy. It’s just never had its day in court … This is probably one of the biggest labors of love I’ve ever been involved with. It’s something I’m hugely proud of, and something we’re all dying to do more of.
The space show stars a lot of vaguely familiar, talented comedic actors, including Karan Soni (Deadpool), Milana Vayntrub (Ghostbusters), and Neil Casey (Ghostbusters), as well as Mystery Science Theater 3000 favorites Joel Hodgson and Trace Beaulieu.
Come for Paul Feig. Stay for the alien who can only communicate with humans via Matthew McConaughey quotes.
