Amazon is on quite the tear when it comes to nabbing exclusive domestic rights for a wide variety of peak television content for its streaming service Amazon Prime. Now, the upcoming small-town police drama Tin Star, headlined by Tim Roth, will be the latest to join the lineup, arriving exclusively in the U.S. on Amazon Prime and Sky Atlantic in the U.K. with a 10-episode inaugural season.
The Tin Star trailer has arrived, showing a cop series that seems to mix some levity-infused Twin Peaks “big city lawman in an eccentric small town” idiosyncrasies with a dark conspiracy centering on the activities of a local oil company.
Tin Star Season 1 Trailer
Tim Roth stars as Jim Worth, a British expat who serves as the police chief in a tranquil Canadian Rockies town called Little Big Bear; a radically new locale to which he brought his family in search of a better life. However, that objective is shattered after a member of his family is mysteriously murdered. Thus, armed with a badge, jurisdiction, exceptional detective skills, while typically deep into his cups, Jim goes on an obsessive, vengeance-fueled quest to nab the culprit. The investigation will also put him in the orbit of an alluring local oil firm lobbyist, played by Mad Men standout Christina Hendricks and her creepy company boss Gagnon, played by Hell on Wheels villain Christopher Heyerdahl.
The series will join a lineup of Amazon newcomers that includes the Glenn Close-starring zombie series Sea Oak, Julia Roberts-starring drama Homecoming, Natalie Dormer-starring Picnic at Hanging Rock, as well as seven Agatha Christie TV mystery adaptations. As Brad Beale, Amazon’s vice president, worldwide TV content acquisition expresses in a statement over the Tin Star acquisition:
“We are thrilled to be adding Tin Star to Prime Video in the U.S. this fall. We believe that the show’s intriguing story, coupled with a world-class cast, will resonate with our Prime members in the U.S.”
Tin Star Season 1 Cast and Crew
Tin Star will be Tim Roth’s first regular television series role since his cancelled 2009-2011 Fox criminal profiler drama Lie to Me, barring miniseries roles on Klondike and Rillington Place, as well as a recurring role on Twin Peaks: The Return. He, of course, is best known for roles in Quentin Tarantino’s signature films such as Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and The Hateful Eight. He was also notably seen in films such as Selma, The Incredible Hulk, Planet of the Apes (2001) and Rob Roy.
Besides Roth and Hendricks, Genevieve O’Reilly, Oliver Coopersmith, Christopher Heyerdahl, Abigail Lawrie, Stephen Walters, Sarah Podemski, Ian Puleston-Davies, Roark Critchlow, Ryan Kennedy and Kevin Hanchard also fill the Tin Star cast.
The creative force behind Tin Star is Rowan Joffe (Before I Go to Sleep, Brighton Rock), who serves as writer and director. The series is a production of the Endemol Shine-owned banner Kudos (Humans, Broadchurch). Alison Jackson and Kudos CEO Diederick Santer serve as executive producers and Kudos’ Jonathan Curling is onboard as a producer.
Tin Star Season 1 Release Date
