The Deuce Trailer: Maggie Gyllenhaal & James Franco Star in HBO Porn Drama

James Franco stars as twin brothers in this new drama from The Wire creator David Simon.

The Wirecreator David Simon is writing another show for HBO, alongside author George Pelecanos and starring James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

The Deuceis a porn drama set from the early 1970s to the mid-1980s in Times Square, following the legalization and rise of the porn industry. Franco stars as both down-on-his-luck bartender Vincent Martino and the irresponsible Frankie Martino, twin brothers operating out of Times Square.

Michelle MacLaren — she of Breaking Bad, Westworld, The X-Files, and The Leftoversfame — directed The Deuce pilot, and the look we get in this sneak peek bodes well for the visual style of the show. Franco also helmed two episodes in the eight-episode first season.

Created by George Pelecanos and David Simon and starring James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal, The Deuce follows the story of the legalization and subsequent rise of the porn industry in New York’s Times Square from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s, exploring the rough-and-tumble world at the pioneering moments of what would become the billion-dollar American sex industry. The Deuce premieres September 10 on HBO.
