The Defenders Season 2 “Not in the Plans”

Will The Defenders Season 2 happen? Right now it doesn't look good.

Over six months after its debut, Netflix still hasn’t confirmed The Defenders Season 2 yet. Ordinarily, this is where we would say something along the lines of “here’s why you shouldn’t panic.” After all, they always take their time announcing renewals, no matter how successful a show is.

But in this case, it sounds like the team’s first mission would be their last, and The Defenders Season 2 seems unlikely.

“I had a great time doing The Defenders and honestly, it was such a good experience that I would even do it again,” Jessica Jones and Defenders star Krysten Ritter told Vulture. “I don’t think we are doing it again. It was never intentioned to do it again, but, you know, if I was given another opportunity, I would.”

Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb confirmed this in a Reddit AMA, where he said that The Defenders Season 2 is “not in the plans right now, but you never know!”

Of course, this can change. There are a lot of other Marvel Netflix shows that need to get their work done before they can even consider another team up show. But if turns out that it doesn’t happen, well, let’s face it, this wasn’t exactly a team that ever felt built to last. They’re not the Avengers, right?

The Defenders Season 2 Release Date

Don’t count on it. But if anything changes, the absolute earliest we’re likely to see this now would be late 2019 or early 2020. But for now, don’t hold your breath.
