Melissa Benoist is delightful in any medium, which is why it’s such great news to hear that the Supergirl star will be making her Broadway debut!
According to EW, Benoist, who starred on Glee before appearing as the Girl of Steel, will be on Broadway this summer. She will assume the title role in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical at New York’s Stephen Sondheim Theatre. Who needs a nice, restful summer break after 10 months of starring on a TV show when you could work your butt of on Broadway instead?
Benoist’s limited Broadway run (Supergirl’s gotta fly back to Vancouver for Season 4 eventually) will begin on June 7th and end on August 4th. As you might have imagined, Beautiful follows the early life and career of Carole King. Jessie Mueller won a Tony Award for the role Benoist will be assuming when the musical first opened in 2014.
“The stage has always felt like home to me,” Benoist said in a statement, “and the fact that I will be joining the amazingly talented Beautiful family for my Broadway debut is wish fulfillment at its finest. Carole’s music was a mainstay in my household growing up, like it was for so many people. It will be an honor and a pleasure to sing her music and portray her inspiring resilience to audiences every night.”
Tickets are already on sale for Benoist’s Broadway role. Head over to the show’s official site to look at availability and price.
