Star Wars Meets Arrested Development In New Video

Solo director Ron Howard knows a thing or two about good narration and brings those voice talents to the Star Wars universe.

“Now the story of a family that wants to rule the galaxy and the one son who had no choice but to save it,” says a familiar voice at the beginning of a new video produced by the Star Wars YouTube channel. What follows is undoubtedly the best Star Wars film since Empire.

Yes, that is Star Wars meets Arrested Development in a brilliantly conceived crossover. Yes, it was very sad and concerning when Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller bowed out (were fired from? Still not clear) of directing Solo: A Star Wars Story

But Darth Plagueis never closes a window without opening a door. And new director Ron Howard’s previous involvement with an all-time classic Fox/Netflix show Arrested Development opened a very exciting door, indeed.

This video combines all that’s great about both franchises. Ron Howard as Arrested Development‘s omniscient narrator is one of television’s true treasures. And when placed into the Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope universe, he’s able to comment on some questionable canonical moments that fans always wished they could.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” – Leia

“She actually did.” – Narrator.

“Who is she? She’s beautiful?” – Luke.

“She’s his sister.” – Narrator

“I don’t seem to remember ever owning a droid.” – Obi-Wan

“From a certain point of view…Obi-Wan was lying.”

And then there are the old, beloved Arrested Development standbys: the jaunty Mexican mariachi music during fight scenes, Pete Rose sliding into secondbase, and even an “on the next Star Wars” segment.
