Siren Season 2 is a go! Freeform has renewed the mermaid drama ahead of its Season 1 finale, which is set to air on March 24th.
According to TV Line, Season 2 will consist of 16 episodes, which represents an increase from Season 1’s 10-episode order. The renewal is not too much of a surprise, given that Siren is currently Freeform’s most-watched series and is currently the #1 cable drama in the Women 18-34 and 12-34 demos.
Siren follows the story of Ryn (Eline Powell), a mermaid who arrives in the seaside town of Bristol Cove looking for her sister, throwing everything the townspeople thought they knew about reality into question. Ryn is not your typical Disney mermaid, but rather a predator who is decidely not human in her instincts and culture.
“Most of the mermaids in popular culture—Splash or the Little Mermaid, which I love—they’re much more easy-going and beautiful and glossy and sleek,” Powell told Den of Geek during an interview about Siren.
“In our show, the mermaids are much more animalistic. These are creatures that survive in the ocean. You have to be a little bit fierce in order to cope with that. And these creatures are predators, really. They’re not as perfect or sensitive or beautiful as maybe we’ve seen before, but that’s what makes them exciting. They have a wild side.”
Siren Season 2 Release Date
While it is far too early to say when Siren Season 2 will premiere, especially given the fact that Siren Season 1 is still airing, Spring 2019 or Summer 2019 both seem like safe bets. More news as we hear it.
Siren Season 1 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on Freeform.
